The UNESCO Chair on Theory and Technology of Environmental Safety in Water Resources Control at Novosibirsk State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering (Sibstrin) Held a Conference

On the 25^th of November Sibstrin University held a scientific conference “Scientific and Applied Aspects of Hydraulics and Hydrodynamics, Ecology and Multiple Use of Waterbodies”, devoted to the 90-th anniversary of Academician Oleg F. Vasilyev, an outstanding scientist in the field of hydrodynamics and hydraulics, hydrology and hydrophysics, ecology of rivers and water bodies, the organizer and the first director of the Institute of Water and Ecological Problems of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

During his scientific career O. F. Vasilyev has always paid great attention to the training of scientific and engineering professionals. For many years he was a professor of Novosibirsk Institute of Construction Engineering (Sibsrtrin) and at present he is the head of the NSUACE (Sibstrin) Branch at the Institute of Water and Ecological Problems of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The conference was opened by the welcoming speech of Rector of the NSUACE (Sibstrin), Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences, Professor Yuriy L. Skolubovich. In his speech he noted the contribution made by Oleg F. Vasilyev into the development of “water” science in Siberia, his role in formation of scientific school in Sibstrin,

Over the years of his work O.F. Vasilyev has prepared 12 doctors of science and more than 45 candidates of science. He has been successfully cooperating with Russian and foreign partners, concluded agreements with such countries as Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, France, Germany, Serbia, the Republic of Korea and many others.

Y.L. Skolubovich pointed out that at present the University is developing such directions as ecology and water use. On October 15, 2015, after one and a half years of strenuous work the International UNESCO Chair on Theory and Technology of Environmental Safety in Water Resources Control was opened at Novosibirsk State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering (Sibstrin).

The International Chair is a part of the UNESCO chairs network united by the water theme in the framework of UNITWIN program. Its aim is elaboration and realization of long-term programs on solution of regional and global problems in the field of nature and water management by Russian and foreign scientific and educational institutions and training of specialists integrated into scientific environment.

Projects in the field of hydrology and ecology have already been planned by the UNESCO Chair at NSUACE (Sibstrin) and their realization is going to start soon. The Deputy Head of the UNESCO Chair, Dean of the Environmental Engineering Faculty N.V. Sineeva told about one of the projects “Examination of Water Objects of Urbanized Territories” in her report.

During the conference actual problems of hydrodynamics and hydraulics, problems of present ecological state and complex use of water objects in the Siberian region were discussed. Close contacts of colleagues-professionals provided effective exchange of the newest scientific information.
